Transformational leadership is essential for improving team innovation and learning. Michael Collura, President and CEO of In Home Personal Services, Inc., is an entrepreneur and leader with exceptional company development and marketing abilities. Michael was motivated early on during his first job at the age of 15 in a nursing home, and he would later discover that his goal in life and the plan that lay ahead of him may have been destiny. He sees that leadership has always been a part of his life and work environment.
As a motivational leader himself, Michael found mentors that shared, developed, and taught him about leadership, which helped guide him when the time came in 2004 to start his own company. He asserts, “I relied on those early years and experience to build what became In Home Personal Services.”
IHPS
In Home Personal Services was founded in 2004 with the goal of creating a better senior care business model that positively touched the lives of everyone involved. The In Home Personal Services’ team has worked tirelessly to make their vision a reality, presenting their incredibly beneficial and supporting services and offering nothing but the finest since it has always been more than a company to them; it has been their purpose.
In Home Personal Services, Inc. is a non-medical elder care company concept that now runs as a countrywide franchise system in the country’s largest and most sought-after market. A system designed with the entrepreneur in mind, and constructed to be better in the area, with multiple benefits and differentiators, all proudly developed by the team here today via years of hard work, devotion, and collaboration.
In Home Personal Services teams not only provide care for the elderly, veterans, and people with disabilities, but they also make personal connections, create relationships, and provide their clientele the opportunity to keep their freedom.
The team at IHPS works together to deliver the finest treatment possible. This includes more than just assisting with physical requirements; it also includes the connections that caretakers develop with clients and their families, which provide invaluable companionship.
Team Centric Leadership Approach
Team leaders may promote creativity and learning by participating in team-centric transformational leadership behaviors such as promoting group identity, conveying a collective vision, and encouraging team-building. Michael’s leadership style is to allow the team to steer the objective and to support them even if it means sacrificing himself. He believes that the team will be the lifeline and driving force behind the company’s success. As a result, one should stand back and let the team steer the brand. He asserts, “Being a “useless CEO” is the greatest achievement of my professional life. If you don’t understand that message, you never will.”
As per Michael, he doesn’t motivate his team, instead they motivate him. He mentions, “It’s not a mile, our team goes the extra 100 miles. That’s because they care, they are valued, they are given the opportunity, and they are supported to be more than they were yesterday. It’s not going to be easy; it’s not supposed to be. But when they achieve these milestones, they are motivated for the next 100 miles and beyond.”
Changing Lives
“Knowing that we do matters and that we will have an impact on the quality of life for literally thousands of seniors every year and every day,” says Michael. “What we do is good, and it is the reason and dream I had for starting In Home Personal Services.”
Every day, the IHPS team sees and hears the transformation for which they are working. The team’s ability to make a difference in the lives of others by providing them with a better quality of life, security, tranquilly, joy, and independence is an inspiration. “How we impact the family dynamic and how it makes us all feel knowing we are doing well with our skills and profession,” says Michael.
Advice for Aspiring Leaders
Michael’s advice for young entrepreneurs is to “Do what you are passionate about. This will bring you joy and you will never work a day in your life. Be ready to fail, it is part of the process.” He suggests young visionaries to seek out a mentor and surround themself with positive people that will inspire and support them. He adds, “Work to make them better and work to make your useless. Do good, and the world will react.”
