Volttic EV Charging started in 2017 when EVs were very new and almost unknown to many of us in India. Volttic started with the intention of contributing to sustainability and helping the country’s economy with part of its startup eco-system. We are ensuring that EV charging infrastructure compliments EV sales demand through our flexible business offering and operational efficiency, which is assisting India in becoming an EV-ready nation.
Below are highlights of the interview:
Tell us about CEO/Founder’s background and what did he do before joining the industry?
I am purely a technocrat from an electrical engineering background. I graduated in 2007. Before starting Volttic, I worked in the oil and gas industry with power generation and distribution systems. Most of the time I spent on electrical machine operation and maintenance, which gave me full command and understanding of batteries and battery chargers as well as the electrical infra required to run an EV charging system. Some times I did consulting on best reliability and maintenance practices as well, which is helping me optimize my EV charging operations and maintain high efficiency.
Overall, with 15 years of industry experience, I am now running this company along with my team to develop EV charging infrastructure across India. I love working on this since it’s my core domain and I have a full understanding of business operations.
Tell us about the company’s offering and how it is revolutionizing the industry globally?
We provide complete EV charging solutions for the home as well as commercial charging segments.
As Volttic, we provide EV chargers integrated with cloud-based backend monitoring software and also provide the services for installation and maintenance. You can say it’s a one-stop solution for all your home and commercial charging needs.
As a business model, we offer flexibility where infrastructure can be owned by our partners as well as Volttic, but the whole operation is done through the Volttic software platform.
Our major forte is commercial EV charging, where we have captive and public charging stations available as solutions. One of the biggest reasons of our success is that we are self-dependent on this and this is the need of our business. Because we are in the service (charging as a service) business, we must provide 100% service support to our clients and customers, which is impossible to do if you don’t have all of the services & solutions in your home.
We are serving charging facilities to real estate, housing societies, hotels, malls, public places, and EV fleet operators as per their charging needs.
Our major business comes under CPO (Charge Point Operators) where we own the charging infrastructure and EV users pay for using our charging services.
Our end-to-end solutions help clients to have faster availability of charging facilities, and with this, the EV revolution is gaining pace and we believe this could help globally as well. These charging solutions are universal and can be deployed to any country, and we are getting lots of interest from overseas countries for partnerships and for the same now, we are gearing up to make this a global offering.
What are your standard processes and procedures and how do you maintain to keep up with the customers’ expectations?
We always believe that EV charging needs differ from client to client and application wise as well, so we have to understand the real needs of our clients. For personal EV users, home and work place charging is adequate to meet daily charging needs, and they may require fast charging when traveling to highways, but slow charging is never an option for commercial operators, who always require fast charging support. So, we are developing charging infrastructure as per need and affordability.
As process we first understand the real need of our client and then pitch the EV charging solutions considering daily running KM, available charging time during idle time of EVs and then suggest for either slow and fast charging services.
Its more on make it efficient and having high asset usage as per need.
As a leader, how would you describe your management style and philosophy?
As a leader, I believe the first thing is needed is that your team believes in you and your vision. This is what I have been able to deliver to my team where they always feel confident. We are doing team work and a team needs to be motivated always. The first requirement to being a successful company is always having a great team, which Volttic is having right now.
Instead of chasing the competition to make Volttic on top, I always prioritize how to make our services sustainable and solve the real problems of our clients, which really helps Volttic to be a pioneer in the EV charging industry in India.
Vision, Focus & Execution these three attribute I believe are best attribute to me which helps to shape Volttic and myself as entrepreneur.
What are the three things the institute would like to improve in society, industry or people’s lives?
We believe three things which are much needed are: livelihood, employment, and the environment. They are always required to improve to make the earth a beautiful place to live for us and future generations.
With this focus only as Volttic, we are trying to build a business case where we can generate maximum employment opportunities, which in turn will help to improve the lives of our people and then give them an environment that is clean and clear and they can breathe healthy air.
I think these need more time and every country and industry should take them on very high priority. whereas an institutes like us are the best contributor to this goal.
What was your key driving force to become a successful company?
Success has many definitions and for me, it’s not only measured with profitability, but at the same time, other aspects like sustainability and impact on social causes should also be measured. We, as a company, able to make an impact on the sustainability part and help our clients and customers to add more electric fuel to the transportation.
The driving force behind all our efforts was to contribute to a sustainable environment and then develop solutions that’s need of time and then focus on that only rather than get distracted by many other aspects available in business.
Focus on our vision, constantly improve our product offering, and then execute flawlessly to become one of the leading companies; this is the only path I believe anyone can take.
Where do you see your company in the next five years?
The next 5 years are going to be quite exciting as EVs are going to rule the automobile market, so demand for EV charging infrastructure is also going to increase. We want to lead this vertical in India and, at the same time, we are willing to expand globally in the next 5 years.
Expanding our network to 10000+ EV charge points in the next 5 years to have a presence across all cities in India and have maximum customer base.
More Focus on product and service improvements. With Volttic, we are looking to have one of the safest and most reliable EV charging networks for our users.
We want to set Volttic as a global brand by making strategic partnerships and expanding it as much as possible, but again, focus will remain on having a market-fit product and adding real value to the needs of customers. We may add more EV verticals for operations expansion apart from charging, as market demand will give us a fair understanding of the need. Sustainability always comes when you keep exploring new verticals, which are in your control and compliment your existing business nature, and this will be a crucial factor for our expansion plans.
